Rereading the whole series via audio, which is the only reason why I've reread Carnal Secrets. I LOVE the Phoenix and Mercury Pack series, and I really like Shaya and Nick in all the other books, but their book is the least favourite of mine across both the now completed series. I've reread all the other books, but in the past have always skipped coming back to Carnal Secrets.Shaya takes so long to come around and forgive Nick - yes he acted like a douche, he had his reasons for doing so which at the time were unknown to Shaya, but her indecisiveness just went on for too long. I had to speed up the audio for the first 5 1/2 hours to get past that, and move onto the next more enjoyable part of the story.What I did enjoy about Carnal Secrets was Shaya and Nick once Shaya moved past her issues, plus the introduction of many of the wolves, such as Bracken, Jesse and Zander, that go on to make up the Mercury Pack. And Roni! The story picked up a lot more in the second half and was more engaging.Did I enjoy Carnal Secrets as much as all of the other books in the series.....NO. Do I still have Carnal Secrets in ebook, paperback and audio.....YES. It is part of a favourite series of mine, so therefore had to get them to complete my collections. I genuinely like this series, but these $itchy leading women are wearing me out. So far, all three books have followed the same script. The heroine plays hard to get in order to get attention and be spiteful and mean. She plays games and then gets mad at the hero for doing the exact same thing she’s guilty of doing. This behavior lasts for pages and pages and pages. It’s so annoying. Which is why it’s bothering me so much because I want to enjoy this series. These women are causing me to struggle at parts to keep reading, when what I want is to reach in my Kindle and slap these whiney female characters.I got that Shaya was upset at Nick because he hadn’t claimed her. So mad and hurt that she left her pack and moved away. For six months Nick looked for her. Once he found Shaya and finally explained his reasons, she forgave him and admitted she understood. At this point, they should have both been happy to be finally be together and set their attention on the conflict against the shifters. But nope. Shaya is still hateful and even goes on a freaking date with another man. It physically hurt Nick and his wolf worse to not claim Shaya, yet she never considers his feelings at all. Then after she’s made Nick look weak, after he’s basically laid himself at her feet, she’s too insecure to allow Nick to finally claim her. What! I mean come on! She wanted him, she now has him, but no - she stubbornly continues to cause them both pain. Ugh! And the nickname. Shaya decides to call this gorgeous, huge, bossy, protective alpha wolf man Beavis. Nick has not one single characteristic similar to either Beavis or Butthead. These nicknames in this series are ridiculous.I’m going to try and read the next book. I'm curious as to what happens with all these characters, but I am desperately hoping that Roni doesn’t act the same way that Taryn, Jaime and Shaya have in their books.
