Ebook About In 2014, Maia Kobabe, who uses e/em/eir pronouns, thought that a comic of reading statistics would be the last autobiographical comic e would ever write. At the time, it was the only thing e felt comfortable with strangers knowing about em. Now, Gender Queer is here. Maia's intensely cathartic autobiography charts eir journey of self-identity, which includes the mortification and confusion of adolescent crushes, grappling with how to come out to family and society, bonding with friends over erotic gay fanfiction, and facing the trauma and fundamental violation of pap smears. Started as a way to explain to eir family what it means to be nonbinary and asexual, Gender Queer is more than a personal story: it is a useful and touching guide on gender identity-what it meansBook Gender Queer: A Memoir Review :
Bought this book after my teen requested it.i researched it, but couldn't find any content to view. Purchased it & got a disturbing suprise. Very graphic "comic" style book about one person's sexual experiences. I'm 49, it left images I understood, but didn't want to see. Not recommended. Returned quickly for refund. I loved this memoir, and feel it's a privilege to be given insight into Maia Kobabe's journey along gender identity. I've had questions about my own gender and what I thought about gender roles and where I fit in when I was growing up (and still do, to an extent), and could relate to some aspects of Maia's story. This is the first person I've ever heard of using e/em/eir (yes, MacBook, learn spelling!) pronouns, so eir story was eye-opening in that regard. Overall really well and clearly written, and funny, too.The artwork is awesome, and reminds me of Lucy Knisley's art style. This is a beautiful book that everyone--especially queer kids on their own identity journeys--should read.
