I've never thought Ms.N.R. Walker could write this kind of story.It's not a lame romantic story that just uses some period of history as a background and has nothing to do with that.The story took place a little before Mount Vesuvius has erupted.And even though it's in [Romance] category, you don't have to worry there will be erotic scenes every 5 pages to make you feel sick as any other 'Romance' stories.Yes, there are many romantic scenes for the first half of the book, but around 30% of that portion is aimed for teasing, flirting, and foreplay which will make you feel awww...However, while they are romantic scenes, they're also being backgrounded by serious and high tension from many factors that will keep you at the edge.And then when the second half of the book started, you may forget this is a Romantic novel.The politics' dirty and twisting, betrayal of the betrayal, suspense, desperate feelings, hopelessness, loyalty and heroic actions all came in full force!!And Blood!!Who would think Ms.Walker could write a story with this much blood!?!, not to mention many cruel and horror scenes. At some point, I had to lay down the book and took a breath...``r(^^;)…And I was like...Wow...You have to read this book.It's really good. It's worth every minute that would be taken.It's quite long, but you will feel like you need more even when your heart is full.PS. To Mis.Walker,I don't know the actual information, but, was the 'F' word really being used since Roman times (laugh)? I loved everything about this book from the historic background to the characters to the intrigue and of course the romance. The story takes place in ancient Rome. It follows Quintus, a well respected and loyal ludus owner who was happy owning his ludus and training his gladiators until a conniving snake of a senator forces him to become a trainer for his personal guards. It is there where he meets a new slave, Kaeso, the senator recently purchases and puts under Quintus' control. Quintus and Kaeso learn so much from each other, both in bed and out. However, not all is at it seems and now Quintus has to figure out how to get himself, all of his ludus and now Kaeso out of the control of this Senator that seems to want to control everything. The love scenes between Quintus and Kaeso are beautiful and I say love, not just sex because that is how they read to me. They were written so beautifully. You could just feel the love pouring between the 2. It takes awhile for them to occur and I won't say why so as not to spoil that but the build up makes it worth the wait! The action and intrigue is edge of your seat, hold your breath, oh my goodness what next. I loved every bit of it. It was perfect in every way! I wish I could give this one more stars!
